Volunteers
Who We Are:
We generally have about 35 volunteers who actively support the Thrift Shop with
their time and efforts. Our volunteers are military retirees, military spouses
and dependents. Some of our folks are new to the Shop and new to McConnell,
while others have as many as 13 years of experience in serving our Shop and
our patrons.
What We Do:
Volunteers contribute at least three hours of their time each month to work
in the McConnell Thrift Shop.
Volunteers perform nearly all activities within the Shop, with the exception
of bookkeeping and housekeeping, which are performed under contract. Volunteers
accept consignments and donations; complete consignment contracts; prepare inventory
tickets; ring up merchandise sales; maintain sales sheets; place items into
inventory; withdraw expired items from inventory; assist customers; and more.
An Active Volunteer is an individual, 16 years or older, who has worked on Thrift Shop activities for a minimum of three hours during the previous month. Volunteers between the ages of 14 to 16 years are allowed to work at the Shop while accompanied by a parent.
Benefits For Volunteers:
In return for their efforts, volunteers enjoy several advantages associated
with the Thrift Shop:
- Reimbursement for up to 4 hours of child care, per day worked (restrictions
apply)
- May consign items on the floor for 6 months vs. normal 3 months
- First choice on new consignment and donated items
- Free soft drinks, beverages and snacks while working
- The company of other great volunteer workers, and some fine customers
We can always use another enthusiastic volunteer! Please note: we desperately need volunteers for Monday evenings.
If you can help us, please contact us - either come by the Thrift Shop during our operating hours, or click here to send us an e-mail, and we'll get in touch with you soon. Thank you.
