“Under Construction”

The best way to describe this 2007-2008 MOSC year is that we have been “Under Construction.”  While this is not a bad thing, it tends to create frustration in the members that want everything “right now” and confusion with the members that don’t see everything as “it’s always been done.”  That’s the way it is in most aspects of our lives, right?  We want it right now and don’t bother messing with how it’s always done.  Change creates chaos and then brings good things….. So let me tell you the good things that have been happening this year as a result of “change.”

  1. Plenty of internal changes are being made.  You won’t feel the weight of these changes.  We are working towards becoming incorporated.  What does that mean for you?  It means that you will no longer be held financially responsible if we should dissolve for any reason or if there was a financial problem that needed resolving. While this is a “one in a million” possibility, we can never be too safe.  What else?   We are going PAPERLESS!  It too is going to be a process, but, by the end of the year we will have it arranged that each board member will keep minutes and board information on a memory stick instead of our secretary making hundreds of copies PER month.  You can be PROUD that we are working on becoming more eco-friendly.
  2. We finally have a new webmaster!  No, we didn’t hire someone to keep up our website; we asked for someone to volunteer to keep it running and, after many months, we finally found a new member to do it!  Pam Booser is cleaning up the website for us.  We had a great gal take care of it for us last year but when she moved away we were left stranded.  Pam is still making the changes; when you see her, say thank-you!
  3. The Annual Charity Event is coming up and it has changed somewhat this year!  The event committee is doing a wonderful job getting things moving.  April 5th, 2008 needs to get on your calendar!  WHY?  So that you can come out and support the only other fundraiser we do besides the Thrift Shop to help raise funds for Scholarships, Military Events/Families, and Community Giving.  This year the “change” is that in addition to a live auction, we are having a Casino Night!  Be looking for an email to you later next week requesting volunteers to help tie up loose ends.  We need your donation of time and talent!
  4. You asked for lower prices at the functions at the club and we have done our best to do that.  We have been given the opportunity to select meals from the lunch menu to keep prices down.  You wanted functions off base and we’ve done that too!  We added a family event this year and next month we’re having a lunch bunch!   You wanted variety and we’ve provided it.  We are even having BINGO earlier this year….we’re having it this month!  This has all been under the direction of Teresa Smith and Kelley Cargle.  Be sure to thank them for their time!

As you can see, we have been working hard to bring you an updated club.   These ideas take time and we are already reaping some of the benefits.  Hang in there with us.  Keep giving us your input and know that we are working to give you the club that you deserve.

Sincerely,

Sandi Wurzer
